The Family

Classic Homes of Maryland heads to Poolesville to help a single mother fulfill her promise to keep her 10 nieces and nephews together and out of the foster care system.

On June 22, Classic Homes of Maryland along with the crew of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” notified Felicia Jackson, a single mother who was struggling to keep all of her 10 nieces and nephews out of the foster care system, that she would receive a life-changing gift - a brand new home - in a remarkable seven days. (This episode will air as the two-part season premiere of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on the ABC Television Network.)Jackson Family

Four years ago, Felicia Jackson made a promise on her sister's deathbed to keep all 10 of her nieces and nephews together. Before her sister Cassandra passed away with complications of cancer, she told Felicia that she didn’t want her children split up and Felicia is making sure that will never happen. With that one act of kindness in 2004, Felicia went from being the mother of 4 to a single mother of 14. Felicia has been supporting all 14 children by working as a security guard at a mall. Unable to afford and find permanent housing, this family of 15 had been living in a hotel since December. Felicia was told that if she doesn't find appropriate housing soon, she will have to split the children up within the foster care system. With the community behind her story and fight for self sufficiency, the community deeded her a piece of land with a small 5 bedroom house that was unlivable and in need of major repairs. Felicia could not afford these renovations since she's raising and taking care of 14 growing children age ranging from 4 to 18. Classic Homes of Maryland heard her story and offered to build her a new home, removing the old one altogether.

While Classic Homes built their home with the help of many volunteers, and Ty Pennington with his designers furnished it, the Jackson family went on vacation to Walt Disney World in Florida. They returned to the cheering of hundreds of well-wishing spectators as they entered their new home for the very first time.

The design
team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Ed Sanders, Eduardo Xol, Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis, Didiayer Snyder and Paul DiMeo.
